The Shipping Association of Guyana (SAG) is pleased to welcome the commencement of dredging works in the Demerara River, an important investment that will significantly enhance the efficiency, safety, and reliability of marine transportation in Guyana.
The deepening of the navigation channel will improve access for cargo vessels, allowing for more efficient transit through the Demerara Harbour Bridge at both high and low tides. This will help reduce delays, minimize vessel downtime, lower operating costs, and improve the overall movement of imports and exports.
Faster access to cargo will strengthen supply chains, improve the availability of goods, and contribute to greater efficiency across the country’s logistics and trade sectors.
As Guyana continues its rapid economic expansion, investments in critical maritime infrastructure are essential to supporting increased vessel traffic and ensuring our ports remain competitive and capable of meeting future demand.
The Shipping Association of Guyana extends its sincere gratitude to His Excellency, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and the Government of Guyana for their continued commitment to improving the nation’s maritime infrastructure. These investments demonstrate a clear vision for modernizing Guyana’s transport network, facilitating trade, and positioning the country as a leading regional logistics and maritime hub.
The Association looks forward to the successful completion of the project and remains committed to working with all stakeholders to support the continued development of Guyana’s maritime sector.
